Back to Health and Energy

• Do you have all the energy you'd like?
• Do you have the health and vigor you used to have?
• Are your thinking and concentration as sharp as they once were?
• Is your life filled with as much zest, stamina, and enthusiasm as you'd like?

How many times did you answer, "No" to the above questions?
Even answering, "No" once is cause to evaluate your amino acid balance scientifically, and then receive the proper amino acids in scientifically-determined doses.

Are you nagged by "minor" health problems such as:
  • chronic headaches
  • chronic exhaustion
  • chronic insomnia
  • "minor" depression
  • chronic panic or anxiety
  • poor concentration and/or memory
  • chronic breathing problems
  • shortness of breath
  • pre-menstrual syndrome
  • problems with digestion...?

Have doctors been unable to discover what's wrong. Have you ever wondered why you don't seem to be getting any answers?

Do you have a chronic disease?

You may have noticed something rather striking by now. Western Medicine does not cure illness. Western Medicine does not have a cure for a single chronic illness, although it has the ability to slow down the course of a disease and provide symptomatic relief.

Have you given up?

Have you been told, "There's nothing more that can be done for you?"

YOU decide when it's time to give up. In the meantime, please realize that there are more than two dozen complete healthcare systems, of which Western Allopathic Medicine (cutting, burning, medicating) is but one system. p

Did you answer, "Yes" to any of the last 3 questions? If so, scientific amino acid testing should be done and supplementation of depleted amino acids should be considered your top priority in your quest for health, energy, and vitality.

However, please understand that amino acid testing and supplementation is not our only focus. Nor is amino acid supplementation a panacea. Amino acids are simply the most important nutrients. Let's look at what else we will be evaluating if you choose to be evaluated by Dr. Gersten.

Half of our patients have digestive problems, with symptoms that may include: gas, bloating, heartburn, constipation, diarrhea to name the most common ones. You may have been told to take some antacids or a laxative, but that, "There really isn't anything wrong." We have found that these symptoms, while not always disabling, are clues to a bigger problem. Something does, in fact, cause these symptoms.

We use comprehensive stool analysis to determine if you are having trouble with abnormal bacteria, parasites, or yeast. If you have blood in your stool, we will need to re-test you. Whenever there is a need for a specialist, we will make those recommendations. It is startling how many people seek complementary and alternative therapies when they have not been properly diagnosed. For example, we see people who should have seen a cardiologist long before placing a call to us. People, who had heart arrhythmias . . . or suspicious chest pain. Likewise, if your stool analysis shows a problem that may require consultation with a gastroenterologist, we will strongly make that recommendation.

In some cases, we refuse to work with people because they are in denial about proper testing. For example, a woman with abnormal kidney tests (BUN and creatinine) wants to undergo amino acid testing. I have told her I need to know what her diagnosis is. She has a family history of polycystic kidney disease and is afraid that if she is evaluated by a urologist, they will diagnose the same kidney disease and force treatment on her that she does not want. I have told her that I will not work with her without knowing her diagnosis. Holistic medicine requires that we be open to many alternatives. Even if you choose not to have traditional treatment for a health problem, we still need to know what is wrong . . . whether there is a major medical illness.

So, let us return to the stool testing. Part of our work is to make sure that people are able to absorb their nutrients. If stool testing reveals parasites, abnormal bacteria or abnormal levels of candida (a kind of yeast), we will make recommendations to treat your digestion. Once we have eliminated a GI problem, such as candida, you will be feeling much better, and we can be certain that the amino acid supplements you will be taking are actually being absorbed.

The third most common test we order is food allergy testing (a blood test). Food allergies are common, especially if you have any problems with digestion. Why is that? Irritation of the intestinal wall allows undigested food particles to enter the blood stream. Your immune system attacks these large food particles and then allergies can develop. By testing for 100 different foods, we can pinpoint food allergies and remove one possible cause or contributor to your problems.

When you take a look at our Health and Wellness Assessment Form, you will see how comprehensive our approach is. We do not want to leave a stone unturned. Finally, we want to look, not only at the building blocks of life, amino acids, we also want to check for stress and unresolved conflict in your life. Be prepared to heal your life, and not just your symptom. Chronic stress, by itself, can weaken your immune system, causing a host of metabolic problems. Be prepared to become stress-free.

The more open you are, the more willing you are to examine all aspects of your life, the quicker healing will occur, and the happier you will be. For stress, we will help you learn targeted mental imagery techniques. For your metabolic problems, we will let the amino acids do their work.
